You are correct. Some fish do feed on soft corals and big fish like the Bumphead parrotfish do break corals with the large hump on their forehead to feed. Their feeding creates bioerosion of the reef, which forms white coral sand. Its coral-trimming action protects coral reefs by removing dead coral and opening up new areas for coral colonization and making reefs more resilient to storms and other events. So unlike human beings, fish that consumes coral are gardeners of the reef.

i noe i sound stupid to ask such question, but i used to imagine those cute fish chewing n gnawing on the corals..
