Hi haan! Most sharks swim in order to stimulate breathing. Most sharks rely on ram ventilation and must constantly swim to breathe but the Whitetip reef shark can pump water into gills to breath.

So when it comes to shark-finning, when someone sliced off all of the shark's fins, the shark basically can no longer swim and thus will drown before it can die of blood lost and trauma. That is why, shark-finning is considered as cruel.
